Pet Photography Project 52 Week 13 : A Day In The Life

Welcome to week 13 of The Pet Photography Project Blog Circle. This week’s theme is “Day In The Life”. The instructions were to document a day in the life of a pet. I choose to feature my 5 cats – Max, Ruby, Stanley, Cali and Libby.

I couldn’t really do a day in the life of each cat, so this is more about little snippets of each one. Besides, a day in the life of a cat involves mostly sleeping. 🙂

My oldest cat is Max. I found him in the parking garage of an old job about 10 years ago when he was just 3 months old. He doesn’t like other cats so he stays in my bedroom most of the time. He can even be a bit of a pill with me too, but he still loves to cuddle up next to me when I’m watching tv. He’s also the Max half of MaxNorman Pet Photography. Norman passed away several years ago at the ripe old age of 18.

Max

The next cat I got is Ruby. I adopted her from a rescue called Smitten With Kittens in 2013. She’ll be 6 this year. Ruby spends most of her time looking worried.

Ruby

Since Ruby and Max didn’t get along I decided to get Ruby a playmate. I adopted Stanley in 2014 from Smitten With Kittens also. When he was found as a kitten he had a bad eye infection and he lost his left eye. Stanley is the sweetest of the bunch and follows me around meowing for attention.

Stanley

My 4th cat is Cali. I rescued her off the street not long after I got Stanley in 2014. She had already been TNR’d before I got her. She hid under my desk for about a month, only coming out to eat and use the litter box. Although she’s come out of her shell and will sometimes come sit on the desk with me while I’m working on the computer, she is still very skittish and will bolt if she hears a loud noise or I move too quickly around her. Fortunately she bonded with Stanley and they cuddle all the time.

Cali, cautiously watching me as I take her photo.

The last of the bunch is Liberty. She got her name because she approached a very nice couple sitting outside a cafe called the Liberty Cafe in Coral Gables, FL. They took her in and found out she was pregnant. Once the kittens were done nursing and had all found homes I took Liberty. That was 2 years ago.

Liberty

Some of our day…

Liberty, Cali & Stanley impatiently waiting for their breakfast. Even though Stanley gets fed upstairs he alwasy waits here for meals. Then when Cali and Libby starting eating and he realizes there’s no food for him, he runs upstairs. Every day. (I use the AntBlocker food tray downstairs because in spite of my best efforts we sometimes get ants in the house. It works wonders).

Stanley doing some grooming in his favorite chair.

In spite of the fact that I open feed my cats, meaning there is typically always food in their bowls, Liberty is a shameless beggar. Whenever I open the refrigerator or am preparing food she is there.

Some time is always spent looking for lizards in the backyard.

Max, lounging and stretching.

I threw some catnip on their Turbo Scratcher.

Stanley really likes catnip.

Like, really likes it.

Ruby and Stanley get into once in a while, but they’re just playing. They’ve been buds since they first met.

So that’s pretty much it for a day in the life of my cats. I love being surrounded by them. There’s always one next to me. I love walking around my house and just seeing cats everywhere. I am slowly becoming the crazy cat guy.

Up next in the blog circle is Danyel Rogers, photographer of Wag to my Heart serving the Portland Metro Area.

Thanks. That photo really captures her personality. She was semi-feral when I brought her home. She was here almost 3 months before I could even take a photo of her without her running away and hiding.ReplyCancel

Awww these are really sweet. I too love the catnip pics. But I think my favorite is Liberty’s sneaky look around the corner at the start. Beautiful. ReplyCancel

Wow, your cats have a much more eventful day than mine do – hence the reason most all my photos are of the dogs – love the variety and thanks for taking these felines into your home!ReplyCancel
