Pet Photography Project 52 Week 9 : Wide Angle

Welcome back the the Pet Photography Project 52 Blog Circle! This week’s topic is “Wide Angle”. Wide angle lenses are typically considered 35mm or less on a full frame camera (or 50mm or less on a cropped sensor or AP-C sensor camera). They are used a lot in landscape photography and interior architecture. As the name implies they have a “wide” field of view and can include a lot in the frame. They also have some interesting features. One of which is distortion. Objects closer to the lens can appear stretched. This is not so flattering for portraits of people but can be a fun element when photographing animals. It can sometimes give them a fun, “cartoony” appearance, especially with dogs who have long muzzles.

I shot all of these with a 24-70mm lens at 24mm. My model for this week is Judge, a 3 year old Chocolate Lab that belongs to a good friend of mine. In fact, Judge celebrated his 3rd birthday this week! Like all Labs, he is obsessed with food and sticks. I was actually using a stick to get his attention in these photos, which he is chewing on in the last one.

Up next in the blog circle is Sandra McCarthy Photography of NH.
